Quetico Foundation Statement Regarding Proposed Mining Activity in the Region

The Quetico Foundation is aware of recent public discussion regarding proposed mining activity in the broader region surrounding Quetico Provincial Park. Protecting the ecological integrity, wilderness values, and long-term health of Quetico remain central to our mission.

Quetico is not only one of Canada’s most significant protected wilderness areas, but also a landscape of deep cultural importance to Indigenous peoples who have lived on and stewarded these lands and waters for generations.

We are currently reviewing available information and engaging with relevant government sources, environmental experts, legal opinion, Indigenous Nations and community partners, and other stakeholders to better understand the facts and any potential implications for the park’s lands and waters.

Quetico is one of Canada’s most significant protected wilderness areas, and we believe any activity near its boundaries should be subject to thorough, science-based environmental assessment and careful consideration of potential ecological and cultural impacts.

We will continue to follow developments and remain committed to supporting the protection, research, quality outdoor recreation opportunities, and long-term preservation of Quetico Provincial Park. As more information becomes available, we will provide updates as appropriate.
